Drink Sense Know Your limits on Alcohol use
Launched on Monday 4th December 2006

“It is not Butch to Binge” said Mr. Paul Watson world renowned documentary maker and producer of the BBC 2 documentary 'Rain in my heart' the key note speaker at the press launch of Drink Sense: know your limits on alcohol use.

Speaking about why he made the documentary 'Rain in my heart' about four people struggling with alcohol addiction Paul said “too much reality television was sweeping away very important issues. Drinking too much has become quite acceptable. Tackling Alcohol abuse cannot be delegated. We are not the nanny state. This is our state, we have to face up to the reality and alert everyone to the dangers of alcohol abuse.”

Drink Sense - Know Your Limits on Alcohol Use

Drug and Alcohol Action Programme is organising an Ealing wide Drink Sense campaign in December focussing on sensible alcohol use, patterns of binge drinking and alcohol addiction. Drink Sense supports The Department of Health and the Home Office's national campaign 'Know Your Limits'.

Our Programme of activities

DAAP will organise a number of activities during the month of December to the lead up to Christmas and the New Year. This will include:

  • Dissemination of Know your Limit information and briefings to organisations
  • Production of a simple leaflet targeting street drinkers and vulnerable groups in English, Polish, Somali, Punjabi and Urdu
  • Oral dissemination of information to street drinkers through current and targeted outreach
  • Reaching other targeted groups - Sikh men, pregnant women and Polish men
  • Wider dissemination of Know your Limit and local information on streets, outside pubs and bars and at various points like GP surgeries, drug agencies, off licences, shops, community and religious organisations
  • Electronic information dissemination via the DAAP and the DAAT websites
  • Information stalls in prominent shopping and community locations, at Ealing council, Ealing Hospital, health centres and police stations
  • Information stalls at the University and colleges
  • Organising a seminar in January for professionals working in the alcohol field
